Yes, the UI might be developed further, and surely further features could be added.
But it would seem the developers have set their focus on more technical issues.

You can deactivate the scanning for a source by deactivating its "Refresh" checkbox :

As far as we know most people succeed where you failed.
The Neutron App generally works well.
If you could be a bit more specific ?

I'd start by comparing the configuration of the source entries.

Seems to work with all normal headphones :

32 Ohm ->1.257 / 1.262 Vrms -> 48 mW
600 Ohm -> 2.03 Vrms -> 7 mW

For instance I'd rather see the spectogram of the raw music rather than a spectrogram of music + EQ effect. Neutron doesn't so that. Feel free to propose to change that here in the Development forum. - people who like to get the best possible DAC, even without regarding the built-in DSP ?

Yes, the second option does not more than just switch the upper limit of the x-axis. The reason it was introduced is purely one of convenience: most people won't want to check for any signal in the range between input sampling rate and output sampling rate ... because there isn't anything, unless so...

The first one switches the x-axis, that is the frequency, between a linear scale and a logarithmic one, also see "User Interface > Spectrum Analyzer > Linear Scale". One possibility: the files are encoded differently, not only in their bit-depth, but also e.g. other different replay-gain-settings.
Or: the 24-bit-files are actually better, and what you're hearing is the difference in quality.
