Mono files shows up as Stereo

Post by Alberto » Thu Nov 28, 2024 3:47 pm

In the Play window under the time line it shows up "Stereo" but the file is a Mono single channel (most of my files are single channel AIFF files).
Even if in "Settings-Audio Hardware-Mono" is selected then it shows up as Stereo. Do I miss something?

Most people would want it that way. If you're sure that you're not one of them then disable "Settings > Audio Hardware > Upmix".

Thanks - Now I disabled "Upmix" but the Play window shows still "Stereo" from Mono files. Strange thing ...?

Yes, you're right, sorry ... set "Settings > Audio Hardware > Channels" to "Mono: L". It seems the disabled upmix still creates a Stereo signal, albeit with the right channel empty. The "Channels" define the output.

Yes, as I understand it now, the display shows how the channels work. Regardless of whether a stereo or mono track is being played.
On the other hand, the info line for the track correctly indicates whether it is a stereo or mono (single channel) file: LPCM or M/LPCM

Right. There are two lines of information, one for the input, one for the output. And some switches. The "Mono" switch works on a stereo signal and mixes both stereo channels together into two identical channels. "Upmix" decides whether to distribute one mono input into two output channels. And with "Channels" you can decide on the output channels.
