Crackling sounds on Playbook

Since upgrading to 2.2.1.7 I have been experiencing a lot of crackling sounds (like radio interference) at certain points of any track. It's most noticeable on a recording containing bells. It's not a hardware issue because the default Playbook player is unaffected.

I have tried the following things to rectify the problem but none of them work
* Turn of the equalizer
* Returning settings to default
* Reinstall the app

As it is Neutronmp is pretty much unlistenable too. What's happening?

Does restarting PlayBook help? and audio interruptions disappear?
