Hi-Res not working with Zenfone 6
Hi-Res not working with Zenfone 6
Hi, i've just baught the news Zenfon 6 (ZS630KL) and i install Neutron on it. It's seem the Hi-Res driver not work with it, on my previous phone (Zenfon 5, yes i like Asus :p) when i set all parameters for Hi-Res output the "Asus AudioWizard " actualy says "you are in HQ mode this assistant is disabled" (something like that). When i go on it withe my new zenfone 6 while neutron playing music(with all same settings you said on the Hi-Res post), i have not this message on the AudioWizard . I try with PowerAmp with Hi-Res mode activated (just for check, i really prefere neutron) and i have the message "HQ Mode, AudioWizard disabled..."
So i think may be you don't support the DAC in zenfone 6 or it's just a bug or i'm just suck i don't, it's why i'm here.
I try transfer the neutron config folder from old to new phone for not have to make all my interface settings again, but i also try with all fresh install.... same issue.
the asus link to the phone if that can help you to help me

Re: Hi-Res not working with Zenfone 6
What does the info bar tell you about the output ?
Re: Hi-Res not working with Zenfone 6
And what frequencies can you choose from ( Settings > Audio Hardware > Frequency ) ?
Re: Hi-Res not working with Zenfone 6
Could you give us a screenshot of the upper section of the Audio Hardware ?
Re: Hi-Res not working with Zenfone 6
The first screenshot shows the input, could you tap on the 3-dot-button so that it changes to the output and do another screenshot ?
Re: Hi-Res not working with Zenfone 6
OK. You are playing a lossless, non-high-res, file with a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz and a bit-depth of 16 bit
You have chosen to use the "generic driver" (Audiotrack) and told it to "follow source frequency" / "suivre la frequence de la source", that means to use a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz as output for 44.1 kHz input if possible. It is possible, 44.1 kHz is included in the list of available frequencies, so neutron uses it for its processing and output to the DAC.
You've got a long list of available frequencies. If you disable "Follow Source Frequency" neutron probably will choose 192 kHz instead ( I deduce that from the 192 kHz that it shows as frequency in the Audio Hardware Overview ), and you could freely choose from all available frequencies.
So High-Res probably works, but you are not using it, which is in my humble opinion the best way to play your not-high-res-music. So you are doing fine !
You could try to disable "follow source frequency" - Neutron should then use 192kHz sampling rate, which would qualify as high-res. Probably the device then will tell you that you are doing so.
Whether it is a good idea to upsample non-high-res music to high-res ( or use high-res at all ) is debatable. But it looks as if your device could do it if you tell it so.

Re: Hi-Res not working with Zenfone 6
Another thing you could try : keep "follow source frequency" enabled and get yourself a song in high-res, then Neutron should use the song's sampling rate as basis for its processing and output to the DAC.
