No sound when connected with USB to Android Auto

Post by CarlFredricksen » Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:02 pm

When connecting my phone with USB to Android Auto, the music files are playing but not sound is heard. The time Code runs and in AA you see the EQ moving. When I stop the file, the EQ stops moving.
Sound is only audible, when I start a file in another app (e.g. voice mails in Telegram or when I start a song in VLC Player and switch to Neutron). Then there is sound, but it disappears after a few seconds.
Connected with Bluetooth with my car the sound is playing. Also with phone speakers.

I did some changes in the settings, maybe that's the reason. But I can't say exactly what I changed. It was in Audio Hardware Generic Driver, Direct USB access. I thing I put it as it was before, but am not sure. Obviously it's not like it was before, because the sound still doesn't play.
I also cleared Cache and storage in Android settings.

Does anybody know, what settings I have to choose so that the sound is playing via USB?

Is it possible to send my settings in a logfile so that you can check what's wrong?

There's a return-to-defaults button in the audio hardware section, try that.

I don't find it
When I use this, are all my settings gone? Even User interface and EQ?

The button in the middle at the bottom. Should reset everything in this section and subsections, eq presets won't be affected .

Problem with Android Auto

Post by fzwo » Thu Jul 15, 2021 10:03 am

Hi, since recently, my Neutron has a problem while using it within Android Auto.

The mobile is connected via USB-c to the car.
Neutron works as normal via the Entertainment System, but I hear no sound...

Other Applications like Audible work, it is not a Problem with Android Auto overall.
Playing Soundfiles via the other Aplications works also.

I tried Neutron with both HD and SD Audiofiles.

Can anyone help me how to investigate and probably solve the problem ??

TNX in Advance, Frank

Do you have another USB-DAC to check whether output via USB-C works without Android Auto ?

I switched to a Pixel 3a from a V30 and have the same issue on the 3a only. Neutron will stream music over Bluetooth with no issue but stops when USB is plugged in for Android Auto as required for my Hyundai. VLC works as a music player with android auto and navigation audio works fine too.

If I tether my old V30 to my 3a, I can use Neutron on my V30 with Android Auto. The V30 is on Android Pie, the 3a is on 11.

I'm having this issue with my Pixel 5 as well. Tried different cables but I get the same behavior. It seems like the volume gets pegged at 0 with no way to adjust it up.

A workaround I have decent luck with is playing audio through another app first (e.g. YT music), and then switching back to Neutron.
