Internal DAC not detected anymore

Post by doomed » Sat Oct 24, 2020 7:18 pm

Hi,

I was doing fine with my old Axon 7 mini until I had to format my SD Card. I guess my neutron settings were in SD Card too. I realized couple of days ago that in Audio Hardware options, my internal dac is not indicated. It's OpenSL ES now. Very sad... Tried all the Generic Driver options but nope... I even did a factory reset and new installation didn't detect my Internal DAC. Please help!

access: RW_INTERLEAVED
format: S16_LE
subformat: STD
channels: 2
rate: 49000 (48000/1)
period_size: 1920
buffer_size: 5760

Could you provide screenshots of the Audio Hardware section ?
It works as it is now, with OpenSL ES ?

I hope I am not losing it but I could have swear that I didn't need to use generic driver option before. Now my drv is "AudioTrack (SYS)" previously it was not! I don't want AudioTrack or OpenSL ES!

Yes, audiotrack is the generic default. I suggest you disable the custom format as it is supposed to be for expert use only. Btw : there's a back-to-defaults-button below in the middle.

If I disable custom format then I am stuck @48 khz with OpenSL ES. No 24 bit too. The song I was playing is 24/192 and follows the frequency with success so it's ok. But why my internal DAC is not indicated as before anymore? I want to have that. Not Audiotrack! Can any Axon 7 users post their screenshots here?

You should ENable generic driver and DISable custom format, then you should see Audiotrack. This would be the recommended way to do things in Neutron, see

Since 1.97.0 version Neutron supports Hi-Res Audio output to the mobile devices which support it and have dedicated on-board DAC (ESS, XMOS, Qualcomm, ...) for Hi-Res Audio. The Hi-Res Audio must be supported by firmware of course. Minimum Android OS version is 4.4.

To make sure you have guaranteed Hi-Res Audio output (if device supports it) there are number of prerequisites in Neutron's settings -> Audio Hardware:

1) Generic Driver = ON
2) Generic Driver -> Hi-Res Codec = ON
3) Generic Driver -> Hi-Res Speaker = ON
4) DSP Effect (Device) = OFF
5) Low Latency = OFF
6) 32-bit Output (IEEE 754) = OFF

The easiest approach is just to reset all settings of Audio Hardware section to default (middle Undo button in the bottom of dialog).
What you think to have seen before you did something to your device I cannot judge. In the normal course of events in Android you either enable the generic driver and you then see Audiotrack (which IS the generic driver) or you disable the generic driver and then see OpenSL (which is the other available driver). I don't know what it looks like with an external (USB) DAC, maybe it's different then - can anybody tell ?

When you have set everything in Settings > Audio Hardware to defaults check Settings > Audio Hardware > Frequency. If you can choose frequencies above 48 kHz then Neutron supports high-resolution-audio for the device.

If you want Neutron to automatically use the actual input's sampling rate you can activate Settings > Audio Hardware > Follow Source Frequency
