function of high pass filter in compressor settings

Does anybody know what the high pass filter in the compressor settings does ?

Does it add another eq band to the output ? Or does it filter the compressor curve's input, so that low frequencies would get a stronger increase ?

This option affects Compressor's calculations only and does not affect (filter) audio. E.g. it is possible to filter out some very low frequencies and make Compressor less sensitive to bass.
