A queue is a known concept to serialise things that have to be done - print jobs to be printed, passengers to enter a bus, songs to be played by a music player. There are music players where all playing has to be done via a queue, but Neutron isn't one of them. In Neutron you've got a music library, where you can select the music for playing, and then just play it. Or you can build playlists, which so become part of the music library, and can be played like everything else.
So what do we need a queue in neutron for ? When you want to play a song, you can achieve that by opening its file information and press "+ Queue".
The song is added to this list, you can invoke the list from the library and play the song.
In that it does this it's just another playlist. So what's so special about this queue ? Do a long press on the Queue in the library and you see its settings :
If you enable "Autoplay" it will start playing as soon as you add something. If you enable "Dynamic" it will delete what it has played from the queue. And if you had interrupted playing something by adding to the queue the playing will resume exactly where it had been interrupted. So you can use the queue if you want to edge songs into your currently running track list. Have a look at this topic for a discussion about this use case.
The Queue has to be enabled in "Settings > User Interface > Optional Features" to work. You can add the buttons for adding something to the queue and invoking the queue to the Top Panel in "Settings > User Interface > Panel: Top" .
