Mixing the audio from other apps with the music

Post by subwoofer » Sun Mar 21, 2021 10:44 pm

I am using a DAC with android but when I am using the navigation when I'm listening to music, I can't hear the voice guide bcs it doesn't come out from the DAC and only the DAC is connected to the amplifier. Would be very
nice to channel all android sounds to the DAC along with the music.

That's an Android-specific limitation due to its dated approach to high-resolution-audio. Try Settings > Audio Hardware > DSP Effect (Device). This will force Neutron to use the standard-android-path for its audio output and enable the audio output of all other apps that also use this standard way. As a side effect you won't be able to use high-res-audio, though.

Where does android draw the borderline of hi-res audio? I don't mind to not to have 64bit processing instead of 32bit.

Generally hi-res is everything above 16bit 48 000hz (16bit 48khz is already considered hi-res). 16bit 44 100hz and below is not.

24bit 44 100hz is also hi-res for example.

DSD is hi-res as well.

If not going through the Android mixer (if you are using Neutron build in driver, should be so if you see 'hi-res' options in settings), Neutron always outputs signal above 16bit 48khz, so its hi res always.

There's no line for Neutron to draw. "High-Resolution-Audio" is a marketing term used for everything with substantially higher sampling rate or depth than the CD ( 44.1 kHz 16 bit ) and Android ( 48 kHz 16 bit ) standards. With music player apps the point is to be able to check whether the os and the device support this for the data transfer from player to DAC. And then do that if needed. In Neutron the user can decide whether to use 64 or 32 bit for internal processing, high-res or not high-res is another question.
