Replying to myself :

The way Neutron handles tags is definitely a mystery.

I decided to go the "re-tag" route.

So I took all files from the piano concertos and put then in the same folder.
I relabelled all the tags and instead of ordering them by CD, I renumbered all tags : tracks 1 to 20...

I then uploaded the files and launched a rescan of the files.

Now Neutron sees only some files and omits the others...

It seems like adding a number in front of the file's name is not enough.
Concertos 1 and 2 have first movement called "Allegro con brio".
So the name of the file given by the provider (Qobuz" is : 1. I. Allegro con brio (first movement of concerto 1) and 4. I. Allegro con brio (for first movement of Concerto 2).
It seems Neutro discard the 1. and 4. an,d only recongizes "I. Allegro con brio" and as such considers tose files as duplicates and only shows one randomly.

I would still be insisting on the fact that NO OTHER app is doing this. All files do display correctly in Emby, in Bubble UPnP, in Symfonium, in mConnect and in Hi-Fi Cast.

I therefore still consider that the problem does NOT come from the tags, but from Neutron.

And that makes things much too complicated... I will therefore have to consider that I can't take benefit of the DSP features of Neutron as it's tags handling is simply beyond my comprehension...

Regards.

Dear, please note: tags are metadata included in the files, they have nothing to do with the file names !
Please, use one of the many freely available programs to edit tags, e.g. mp3tag, if you really want to do that !
---
If not, if you want Neutron to guess the metadate from the file names, activate "Settings > Media Library > Guess Metadata".
But that's only guessing, and I cannot tell the algorithm that Neutron uses for that.
---
So there's no mystery: metadata are read from the files ( not their names ! ) if available. If not and the user wants it, Neutron takes the file names into account. For the algorithm used ask neutronmp@gmail.com, perhaps they'll tell you, but

Hi,

Last message as this discussion is pointless.

I know what a tag is.
Here is what it looks like :
- columns to the left => tags
- Columns to the right => file name

I can even send a link to a folder where I'll store the files so you can download them and check for yourself...
Here it is : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

But guess what ?
Even if ALL the files you can see there are in the folder :
- Neutron does not recognize all those files that have the same FILE NAME (despite DIFFERENT TAGS)
- ALL OTHER apps can handle this as it should be with ALL files and ALL correct TAGS.

When everyone does the same thing except one, what's the problem ?
OPTION A : everyone is WRONG except the one who does it differently ;
OPTION B : only the one doing it diferently is wrong.

You go for option A.
I go for option B.

Those two options are not compatible.
You consider this app to be perfect and put the blame on my way of tagging files.
I consider my tags are correct and put the blame on the app that does not know how to handle those.

No debate.
No possible compromise.
Besides, I do not particularly appreciate being talked to as a complete idiot...
I will not return the favor.

I'll just stop waste time on this app and this discussion.
I want to listen to music, not fight technical issues.

And that is all I've been doing since I tried to drive my music library with Neutron.

I'll just do without the DSP functions.
So be it.

I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings.
---
Thank you for the link, that's too much file size for me, but I'm not the only user here, perhaps someone with a fast internet connection can download them and see what his Neutron instance says to them ?
---
Or could you name two of the files that show the effect that you mention - that one one of the two is added to Neutron's library if and although both are present in the same source directory?

Hi,

You could just take track 1 and 4.
Check the tags...

And see how Neutron handles thsoe.

That should you give you an idea.

Unless you did this for sake of demonstration...
Why do you have files with disc and track number tags that do not correlate with the (assumed) disc and track number in the track file names?

"I consider my tags are correct and put the blame on the app that does not know how to handle those"

Don't have identical file names in the same directory for one. That seems pretty self explanatory.

Anyway, I was able to download files 1 and 4, add them to a directory, create a source, and see the files in the library, as two tracks of the same album "BEETHOVEN - Complete piano concertos - BARNATAN" by album artist "BEETHOVEN - Complete Piano Concertos".

So if you don't see two tracks if you do the same, even after a complete rescan of the source, with the same library settings, feel free to contact the developer ( neutronmp@gmail.com ), they might have further ideas how to analyze this.
