Transferring to and playing on iOs without iTunes
Re: Transferring to and playing on iOs without iTunes
Just arrived at work after a 75 minute drive. No hiccups or glitches with Neutron playback at all. I allowed the phone to auto lock after 5 minutes and played through several tracks without touching anything, not even manually advancing. Just letting it play. Unlocked, made changes to the playing list, then locked with the side button. Still played through. While still locked, changed tracks several times over 5-10 minutes. No issues. Turned on Waze and let Neutron continue in the background. No issues. Locked the phone with Waze running and Neutron playing, again no issues with tracks advancing after the end of any playing song.
I tried as many combinations as I could think of to find where this could be happening. But I could not replicate what was described in the initial reports. At least not without more details with other possible settings or app impacts.

Re: Transferring to and playing on iOs without iTunes
After many weeks, I solved the problem by uploading the media to the Neutron library again from the computer via cable. I wanted to avoid this because it's a multi-day job, but it's the only way to get Neutron to work well. Neutron doesn't work well with media I transferred from my old iPhone via AirDrop.
I wish you would also find a way to make it work.
Re: Transferring to and playing on iOs without iTunes
Hi all,
I read on this forum (FAQs) and other sources that iPhone OTG output (Lightning and now potentially usbC) is limited to 48kHz. Well, I don’t believe that’s true, I think it’s a limitation of Neutron and it should be addressed.
Here is why.
When I play any files higher than 48kHz on Neutron on iPhones, I do indeed get only max 48kHz into the DACs (chord mojo1 for example). However, the same file played on Onkyo HF app plays at it’s res (tested with 192 kHz). Hi-Res lossless songs in Apple Music also play at resolutions above 48kHz. I was able to reproduce this on iPhone 14 Pro Max as well as iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Romanas

I thought it was only that the lightning (or type c) to 3.5mm adapters were limited to 48kHz, not that the phone couldn't do >48 kHz if connected to a compatible DAC.

With the iOS camera adapter device I have no problem with files up to 32/384. I don’t currently have anything higher to test with.

I suggest you document your setup and ask neutronmp@gmail.com .romanas wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 9:13 pmWhen I play any files higher than 48kHz on Neutron on iPhones, I do indeed get only max 48kHz into the DACs (chord mojo1 for example). This was an issue caused by iOS 16+. I can confirm it’s fixed in iOS 17.4 beta.

If you're looking for more ways to transfer and play music on iOS without iTunes, check out this guide: [How to AirDrop from Android to iPhone] https://airdropresources.com/blog/airdr ... id-iphone/. It covers methods like Snapdrop and SHAREit, which work well for sharing music files between devices. Hope it helps!

Happened to see this thread and thought I’d mention my use of Doppler Music Player for macOS and iOS: https://brushedtype.co/doppler/
The apps support Wi-Fi and USB transfer, and Neutron lets you add any folder of music that’s accessible from the Files app, including the Doppler folder.
