USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
I was able to test on an iPhone with iOS 16.6 with the same Neutron app version, 2.22.4, same settings and this one works perfect all the time… I can only suspect that a change in iOS 17 forces Neutron to 48 kHz max and somehow, sometimes, under certain conditions it gets around it…
Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
Seems this was already a bug in iOS17 that the dev has reported.

Hopefully Apple corrects soon. I just had an update come through today but can't tell you if 17.0.3 fixes this issue.

Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
Thanks, it’s good to know it’s been reported. Unfortunately 17.0.3 doesn’t have the fix. We need to wait longer…
Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
I have a persistent problem with two newly purchased Fiio USB devices: The KA3 and the Q3. Both crack permanently on the smartphone (not on the PC as a test). I've tried all the settings in Neutron, but I can't get rid of it. I was really shocked by the playback of DSD files (DSD64). These are played back without conversion with crackling and pauses. You can't listen to them at all. Only when the conversion to PCM is activated does it sound like the PCM files (see above). I would be happy to know whether this could be caused by my older smartphone: Huawei Ascend Mate 7 with Android 6.0 (ARM7/32 bit). I don't really understand why the DSD playback is so unexpectedly poor and unusable. I have used all cable versions. From Fiio original USB-C to USB-Micro cable, cable with loop-in power bank (KA3), etc.
Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
Not all devices do support DSD. If you play DSD and the device treats this as PCM then some strang sound ffects may occur. In this case you'd better deactivate direct DSD, so that Neutron does the normal conversion to PCM.
Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
I was now desperate and have found a solution for myself. I had read about it after a lot of research. Neutron has been my favorite for years. Also in the car with Hi-Res playback. In this case here (USB Dac), however, Neutron should be improved. In short: I installed and configured the "HiBy Music" app. Result: The Q3 plays PCM and native(!) DSD with the same level of noise immunity! There is still only slight interference with Fiio CL06 cable. This can possibly be remedied with cables. I have ordered some for testing (ddHifi TC03, Oppo Super Vooc). I can't use the KA3 by any means. I'm returning it.
Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
One more information. I have testet these things on a Samsung S8 with Android 9 and everything works fine with Neutron. PCM and native DSD without any kind of crackling. I need a new Smartphone...
Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
With iOS 17.4 beta I can again stream at all resolutions supported by the DAC, well. Beyond 48khz.

Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
If someone uses Neutron Player with USB DAC on Android 14 - please tell me, does it display this dialog everytime when connecting DAC to phone?
Now i use Samsung Galaxy A52 with Android 13, and it's update to 14 available, so i think about pros and cons of 14.
Re: USB DAC support on USB OTG enabled devices
I use Ifi Dac3 on Android 14. After connecting only Neutron is starting. Not this dialog or any other. I remember, that I confirmed this behaviour (Neutron as standard OTG) after the first start.
