Dangerous default volume level on usb dongles
i just got an apple usb-c to headphone jack adapter
when i pressed play (on the default 50% volume level) it almost killed my ears
and when you reconnect the dongle it resets to 50% volume.
you either need to default to 1% volume (even 15% is pretty loud already, and the apple dongle isn't even the most powerful dac)
or adding a gain setting that remembers the connected device and defaults to -30dbA or something
or maybe you can detect the default settings or output voltage and automatically set the volume scale to something that complies with eu law.

Re: Dangerous default volume level on usb dongles
You might try with profiles, you can bind them to devices, perhaps they store the volume.

tell that someone who lost their hearing because of the default settings...
Re: Dangerous default volume level on usb dongles
This is a hardware device requirement. I would have to think that at 50% of the device's maximum permittable volume that hearing damage would not be likely. Shocking may be the more correct term. Other factors of course include what type of headphones you have connected, impedance, sensitivity, etc. None of these can be determined by an app. And I would also guess that there are just as many users that would complain if they always had to turn up their device from a low volume setting every time they started the app.anonymous123 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 2:49 amor maybe you can detect the default settings or output voltage and automatically set the volume scale to something that complies with eu law.
Regardless, the previous suggestion of setting a profile is the most valid in this case.

Re: Dangerous default volume level on usb dongles
please move this back to development.
this is not a user error.
when you try out your new dac and the first thing that happens is that your hearing gets damaged this is obviously a problem of the app.
nobody would expect that simply using a different player would increase the volume by a factor of 10. (literally 10x)

You think it is a bug. Okay, then it's fine here. The forum "Development" is for features, not bugs.
Re: Dangerous default volume level on usb dongles
You could look up the linear volume option in the direct USB access and disable it if it is set, maybe it is the problem that the 50% get interpreted as 50% power, that would then mean -6dB which is a lot.anonymous123 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 2:49 am[...] on the default 50% volume level) it almost killed my ears

Re: Dangerous default volume level on usb dongles
this is not about finding a setting to prevent it from happening again.
this is about changing the default settings so not another user blows his ears because he's not expecting such high volume.

Re: Dangerous default volume level on usb dongles
That logic only applies if the effect occurs with the default settings. Linear volume control is not the default. So should the effect vanish if you switch to logarithmic then the problem was caused by manually changed settings.
