A way to change volume steps?

I am looking for a way to reduce the volume steps, so I can adjust the volume quicker with my remote.

I have found a way but it's not very convenient.

If I start neutron with hardware volume disabled. Neutron uses androids media volume. Which has less steps like I want (can also be changed with root). However, changing the volume has no effect on sound until I reenable hardware volume. Once reenabled volume control works and surprisingly the volume steps remain the same, which is great, until I restart Neutron.

I have to remember to disable hardware volume before closing Neutron and then enable hardware volume control next time I start neutron.

I would love an option for Neutron to set the volume steps. But I would also love an option to use androids media volume with hardware volume enabled, without the hassle above.
