I will use my music collection for ARTIST: QUEEN as an example for this request. I have 3 albums by Queen.
(1) I have my filenames structured so that there is a 2-digit sequential number prefix which corresponds to the track number. This allows me to display and play a complete album folder of track files, in track-number sequence (as if I were playing the CD as-is).
So I have my sort sequence for displaying tracks for ARTISTS, ALBUMS, GENRES, SONGS, FOLDERS, GENRES, specified as "folder, filename".
Also, within SONGS I have "trk number" enabled, so that the track number shown is either 1-digit or 2-digits as appropriate, followed by the metadata title of each track. I am not displaying the external filename itself.
(2) And this works perfectly for individual albums, looking exactly as I'd like.
(3) However when displaying ALL SONGS (for an Artist), the numeric prefix at the front of the track list is not the track number, but rather a simple sequential number starting from 1 (having nothing to do with the track number for that track). And the tracks are presented sequentially within albums, which are also presented in alphabetical sequence.
So in the case of QUEEN (with 27 total songs inside of 3 albums), the songs are numbered 1-27. And they are presented in groups alphabetically by album. And within each album the tracks are displayed in track number sequence. All of this is because of how the other sort sequence setups are configured, for ARTISTS, ALBUMS, SONGS, and FOLDERS.
And so it looks like this:
(4) The above is NOT how I really want to see "all songs" for an artist. I might have dozens or more of songs from single artist and I would like this particular presentation to appear is simply "alphabetical by song title". I do not want any involvement of album, date, genre, etc. Purely alphabetical by title.
So in the case of Queen, all 27 tracks should simply be presented alphabetically by title, no matter what album the track came from and no matter what the track number is within each album.
So I would like to be able to configure the presented sort sequence for ALL SONGS to accomplish that. And in fact it IS possible!!! All I have to do is drill down (i.e. long mouse-click) on the "ALL SONGS" line at the top of the Queeen Artist presentation, which will produce a special setup configuration dialog but specfically only for ALL SONGS FOR QUEEN!
Drilling down into SETUP I can now DISABLE TRACK NUMBER from the display, and also drill down deeper to set the particular sort sequence that is used for the display of tracks, but specifically only for ALL SONGS FOR QUEEN:
(5) And this produces the exact list I'm looking for: (a) no track number, and (b) total alphabetical list of 27 tracks by title:
(6) Unfortunately, all of the above perfect results are only SPECIFICALLY FOR QUEEN - ALL SONGS!!! Yes, it is perfect, and I can accomplish it. but unfortunately it is for no other artists.
==> THAT IS MY REQUEST: that it should be possible to configure a "global" ALL SONGS sort sequence that is separate from how ARTISTS, SONGS, ALBUMS, FOLDERS, GENRES, are configured. In my opinion ALL SONGS is a unique situation, and I'd like it to display just as I've demonstrated above, for ALL of the ARTISTS in my collection.
