Wish list of Pro features

  • 20 dB pad and boost
  • Input level monitoring before press Record
  • Set preferred mic "scenes"
  • Limiter or HPF before the file is written
  • Better file management
Two features I really enjoyed from an older Android app Tape Machine was 20dB boost/pad and input monitoring before record. Shame it no longer supported. Would make this an insta-buy if Neutron Recorder had it. I haven't found a single Android recorder app that allows you to monitor input level before recording. Basic need to deal with either weak signal or too hot a signal.

Onto the next. Like with the player some features are too hard to get to. Like basic audio hardware switching is in the Setting menu. Following design language of Neutron Player, which is quite complicated to be honest. (One of the only reasons I still use it is because of the extensive programmable EQ). Having to scroll through a long list of mics to select (most are internal/null) is a real pain. Look at the Rode Reporter app. It clearly tells you which microphone input is being used (USB C/internal/external) and it also remembers if I have the USB C mic plugged in, it auto-selects it.

Maybe it is asking too much but higher end phones should be able to manage some pre-processing like limiting or first order HPF before write to card/memory. If you could add just a basic limiter to prevent clipping and optional 80 Hz HPF.

Deleting recently recorded files is too many actions away. I wish it were simpler file list interface with Trash icons and multi-select ability.

Thanks for reading my TED talk.
