Unsynched Lyrics
hi,
so i tried to make lyrics work but i failed.
i learned that the player will only process lyrics when stored in apev2 tags. however, most of my music is compressed to flac files which do not seem to support apev2 tags.
imo not supporting lossless music is not a great move for any part of the feature set, so, is there any chance that lyric support without the requirement for apev2 tags is added in the future?
edit:
i just noticed that the one page on the forum i did read is called "How to show Lyrics embedded in flac tag"
however, the instructions there do not work for me because like the instructions suggest i do use foobar2000, but the option suggested in that post does not show up for flac in foobar2000, only for mp3, because according to the foobar2000 forums adding apev2 lyrics to flac files would be potentially destructive so this is not a feature and wont be a feature.
in further experiments i converted one of my files to ape which does support apev2 tags and the tags do show within foobar2000 as such.
however, the lyrics still do not show within neutron.
i did follow the instructions from viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6128&sid=741112d452 ... 214d3b051e and did activate the lyrics in the player settings.
my lyric tag is named UNSYNCEDLYRICS, the tag contains plain text.
between tests i did completely delete the database and rescanned the files.
i did spend a few hours now reading and trying and i just do not know what else to try here.
maybe its just a simple user error? what would be the actual step to show the lyrics when present? i did set "auto open window", but i did not find any button for it.

Re: Lyrics do not work for me because of neutrons limitations

according to the documentation embedded lyrics *should* be supported and thats what i have. i much rather get this working then spend a decade copying and pasting tags into text files.

It would seem that you yourself gave the answer to your question :
Indeed, as clearly stated here :rauschkind wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 7:55 pm[...]
i think the reason might be that my lyics are missing any format and are just written in plain text with line breaks.

but this format does not make any sense for unsynced, embedded lyrics.
they are per track so they dont need the info which track is meant, and they are unsynced so they are not synced to a track position.

What you want then isn't "lyrics" in the sense this term is used here. You simply want to store and display some text with the track. Invoke the file information and see whether the contents of the lyrics tags are shown, if not use the "Comment" tag.

but thats rahter inconvinient to use while lyrics can be shown directly from within the now playing screen without much hazzle.
i think its kind of obvious that embedded unsynced lyrics do need less meta information then external and/or synced lyrics.

Well, certain things have certain formats. If you want to use "Lyrics" in Neutron then you'll have to give it lrc-format.rauschkind wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 7:30 ambut thats rahter inconvinient to use while lyrics can be shown directly from within the now playing screen without much hazzle.

If you don't need synchronized lyrics and/or don't have the times anyway then simply set all times to zero.

Re: Lyrics do not work for me because of neutrons limitations
yes, certain things have certain formats, and apparently unsynced lyrics usually do not use these formats. at the very least these files i ever obtained that used embedded unsynced lyrics tags did not use any formats, the players i used so far that supported unsynced embedded lyrics tags did show them when embedded as plain text and so my embedded unsynced lyrics are all in this format.
i understand what you are saying. just please also understand that your solution would mean exessive ammount of work for these (admittedly few) of us that are used to a different approach.

Re: Unsynched Lyrics
Okay, then let's propose to change this :
Situation: when Neutron cannot interpret Lyrics, e.g. because it isn't in the required lrc-format, Neutron doesn't show it
Problem: showing nothing doesn't seem to be a particularly good solution
Proposal: if Neutron cannot interpret lyrics as lrc then show it as it is
