Hello,

I have an older Android 6.0 smartphone (Huawai Ascend Mate 7 / USB - audio device adjustable) with a built-in DAC that is limited to 48kHz sample rate and 16 bit. Would it really work in terms of Hi-Res playback, if I plug a FiiO KA1 or KA3 into the micro-USB input and pass the output to the DAC in Neutron? Can Neutron bypass the limiting audio hardware of the smartphone?

Thanks and regards!
Thomas

DAC is hardware, Neutron is software, so Neutron doesn't have a DAC. The smartphone has one, and Neutron cannot bypass the limits of this hardware. A USB DAC like the FiiO KA1 has a DAC, and if that is capable of high-res-audio and Neutron supports it then Neutron can send its hgh-res-output ( if you enabled Neutron to produce high-res-output in the first place ) to this USB DAC via the special driver for that USB DAC that runs on the smartphone.

It works with the KA3, when I connect I get a popup asking me if I want to allow direct access to Neutron. Unfortunately I can't tell you whether it also works with the KA1.

@blaubär

Thank you. I only asked as a precaution because, in the case of my smartphone, I don't know where the software comes into play on the circuit board. When it works this way, I am happy!

Integrating a FiiO KA1 or KA3 into your Android 6.0 smartphone's micro-USB input to enhance audio quality is a viable approach. However, Neutron's ability to bypass the smartphone's inherent limitations depends on the specific features and compatibility of the app with external DACs. Thank you! I now have the KA3 here. First of all, the problem with the connection to the smartphone is due to the micro USB input of the phone. The conventional USB-C/USB micro cables don't work because they carry the power lines (no light at the KA3). At least the German dealer has a suitable cable, which I have ordered. But even that only works with the Q3, which I also ordered :-) I can only get the KA3 and my old smartphone to work if I plug a 3-port angled plug (USB micro plug) into the cell phone, connect the USB-A input of this plug to the enclosed USB-C/USB-A cable and the KA3 and also connect the power supply to this angled plug (USB micro input with power bank or charger). I'll report back when everything is in place...

The KA3 basically works as intended. Neutron manages the Fiio, but there is crackling and popping as interference. I suspect that this may be due to the Y-cable, which supplies power (power bank) separately. I have ordered two other adapters. Let's see... You can't listen to music like this...

I got the original Fiio CL06 cable, which only translates from USB-C to Micro-USB. The power supply from the cell phone also works with this. But it cracks just the same ...

Generic driver only has "custom Format" and not the Hires Codec or Hi res speakers...etc
It shows 32(out: 24int) for any track even tracks with 16bit
Every 16 bit track shows output as 16bit
Tap on the field with channel doesn't show anything
