Refresh confusion
Refresh confusion
Hi All,
Just purchased neutron for Android and I'm trying to set up my shared music dir of my wd my cloud (SMB) as a source.
Neutron on my two phones have wildly different scan results for files and directories, both wrong.
The source refresh confuses me, there's the top refresh on change which is self explanatory but then each source has a red button, does that determine if the change check applies to that source?
Also the discs/lines icon can be white, red, yellow, what does that mean?
Guess white means done, yellow means scanning, red means error of some sort?
There's a red progress bar along the top which doesn't seem to indicate much other than busy..?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Re: Refresh confusion
Have a look at Re: 256 Songs in Folder only containing 16 Tracks
You can activate/decativate existing sources by a short to the left of their entry. Deactivated sources won't refresh, their contents won't be shown in the library. Tap again to activate.
From time to time a full rescan on a source might be advisable - long press (in the middle of the entry), then "Scan".
You also can switch the Refresh-button off, then the contents of this source will stay in the library, but the source won't be refreshed.

Re: Refresh confusion
Ok, thanks for the reply. I've been experimenting and things just get weirder. Since my big shared directory wasn't scanning as expected, I made a small shared dir with just 3 artists and albums in sub directories, so not much.
I added this as a source and it scans successfully but tells me there are no music files. ???

Re: Refresh confusion
Did you delete the other source ? Or are the files also included in that ? Some screenshots might help.
Re: Refresh confusion
I deleted my main source - the big shared folder, I've given up on that for now.
I'm left with my SD card source (which seems to scan just fine in neutron) and a small smb shared directory with 3 sub dirs, approx 700 mp3 files
in total.
(My VLC and Samba apps can browse and play big and small shares with no problems.)

Re: Refresh confusion
I should add, I don't want full scans by album, metatags etc, all I want is to browse my folder structure and click play. Unfortunately, I suspect I don't have that simpler option.., the scan has to work.
I put in a developer suggestion for a simple network browse/play option.

Re: Refresh confusion
Yes, there's little alternative with Neutron. You could of course create multiple sources for subfolders of the big folder if it has any and if these are big enough to justify the effort but small enough so that they can be scanned in a reasonable time.
Re: Refresh confusion
My small test directory share only has a few files but neutron can't even scan that. 0 files found (no errors either).
I have spent days on this often into the early hours, I just want to play a network file that other apps play just fine.
I could weep...
