Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only [root cause found]
Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only [root cause found]
I thought I had this resolved using the NMP "Greatest Hits" configuration thread, but alas it's back.
Note: these are views from a UPnP perspective (L-R three different Android clients). Clients 2-3 took no special hoops to get no duplicates and sane sorting.
Also, clients 2-3 play the tracks in the order that is viewed when skipping; NMP jumps around in a non-sequential order that is not obvious.
Attached dir listing confirms there are no physical duplicate files. [edit: oops; no duplicates on network storage, but duplicates in conjunction with local storage]

Re: Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only
Is "shuffle" switched off ?
Re: Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only
Correct. Shuffle is not enabled.
If it were that could account for the random track jumping, of course. But, I presume it would not account for the ghost tracks?
BubbleUP client also does the correct parsing; 19 tracks is the correct physical total.
So, that's (1) for Neutron listing and (3) listing agreement for others. It's rather clear who is the odd man out.
Re: Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only
I think you need to select different category of UPnP media catalog which references track only once, e.g.: Folders, All Folders, All Songs, Albums. Folders is the best as it will simulate directory-like structure in Neutron's Folders section.
Re: Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only
I already have [folder view] selected on the Neutron side.
Is that what you mean?

Re: Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only [DEFERRED]
Ok, I figured out what is going on here.
In short, it is due to how Neutron treats (multiple) music sources. ie independently or aggregate.
The duplicate files were available (by design) on BOTH the UPnP server and the local phone storage. The other clients (HiFiCast,Bubble,Hiby,UAPP) only present the UPnP files when they are pointed at a UPnP source; they (temporarily) ignore the local storage. Thus, no duplicate tracks.
Neutron combines tracks from both the UPnP AND the local storage. (if both sources are selected which makes sense)
A work-around is to deactivate (ignore) the unwanted source reference and reactivate (un-ignore) it when desired so you don't get duplicates.
You might ask "why have files in both places"? Here is the example scenario:
eg 500 CD's on the server (entire collection). This is used while at home. However, while in the car (no network connection) you might want only a subset of the library on local phone storage.

Re: Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only
You can deactivate a source if you temporarily want to ignore it.
Re: Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only
I can't find the temporary capability. Is the ignore undoable? [edit: yes, it can be toggled on/off; see below]

Re: Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only
update: my original suggestion is moot; just tap the icon on the left for active/inactive (see below).

Re: Duplicate ghost tracks with NMP only
(Post 1/2 due to attachment limit)
The ignore action is reversible.
For example, I pointed neutron to two artist folders (honestly just a couple artists that I keep on my device, as you do):
I then long press on that source, and in the following sub menu, click ignore:
If I return to the main library view, I see a clean slate, as expected:
